California may give 'gender-affirming care' - M4L Responds
A bill advancing through the California State Legislature would turn California into a sanctuary state for children who run away from home because their parents won't let them obtain "gender-affirming care," such as puberty blockers and gender reassignment surgery.
The proposed law, SB 107, introduced by Democratic California state Senator Scott Wiener, would give California “temporary jurisdiction” over children who come from other states because they have “been unable to obtain gender-affirming health care or gender-affirming mental health care.”
California currently allows children who are designated wards of the state “to be involved in the development of case plan elements related to placement and gender affirming health care, with consideration of their gender identity.”
Essentially, kids in California’s foster care system have “the right” to obtain “gender-affirming care,” according to California’s Assembly Bill No. 2119, which was signed into law in 2018.
Earlier this week, Moms For Liberty, an advocacy group that fights for parental rights, was temporarily suspended from Twitter after quote-tweeting a tweet from Jeremy Redfern, the press secretary for the Florida Department of Health, discussing SB 107.
The advocacy group's Twitter account was prevented from posting new tweets, retweeting others' tweets, or gaining new followers, until it deletes its tweet.
Once deleted, the group would have to wait through a 12-hour timeout before its account would return to full functionality.
