The Sarasota County School Board met Tuesday morning to pass a resolution granting Superintendent Asplen emergency authorization to act in response to Hurricane Ian.

Description
"The School Board finds that the after-effects of Hurricane Ian comprise an emergency within the meaning of Florida Statute 255.0525. The resulting storm damage is an immediate danger to the public health and safety, presenting a significant loss of public property and an interruption in the delivery of essential education programs and services. The Sarasota County School Board Emergency Resolution grants the Superintendent authority to act on its behalf."

During the meeting, at the request of Mrs. Ziegler, two changes were made to the resolution. The following language was added:

  • "Unless extended, this resolution will expire 45 days from October 4, 2022."
  • "All expenditures in excess of $100,000 shall be reported to the board."
